Spring Boarding

I think spring has finally arrived in Michigan. I noticed this jetting out a bit early to ride the moto home from work on Friday, but then immediately packed my snowboard bag.  Finally a sunny 70deg day and I was chasing snow out west in Colorado. A friend of mine was headed to Denver for work the following Monday so with all the recent news about all the snowfall in the area had me hoping I wasn’t too late .  This, confirmed to me this Saturday afternoon when taking a break to have a beer. The guy next to me told us a foot of snow dropped the previous weekend,  I definitely didn’t notice riding down earlier in the day listening to what sounded like a skipping needle on a record. It had warmed up a bit this past week, it seems spring had decided to come to Colorado also, allowing the snow to get colder and refreeze. Both days were welcomed with a blue bird sky at a sparrow’s fart, but around midday Saturday mother nature decided to throw some ice pellets in our faces. This only helping our beer drinking cause.  Come Sunday, it seemed that grooming didn’t help a whole lot either.  Morning temps were about 10-15deg cooler than they were Saturday morning, causing the top to be rock solid.  It still was a short but overall good trip.  I’ve boarded in worse conditions, which would be Michigan snowboarding. I did get to go back to Two Brothers Deli and the best breakfast burritos in the world and met up with another friend who happened to be in town at Westbound & Down Brewery. If you ever head out west to the Rockies and snowboard, do yourself a favor and stop at Two Brothers Deli in Idaho Springs which is literally right of I-70W. It will get you through the day without the need to pay for overpriced resort food. However, I will say I was blown away with the food at Arapahoe Basin. Its been a several years since I’ve been there so I couldn’t remember if the food was any good. Next time I still won’t skip that burrito though.  Westbound & Down Brewing was decent but it seemed the atmosphere was a bit misplaced. My buddy this is what it might feel like to walk into a brewery in somewhere like Hollywood, CA. It didn’t necessary put out the old mining town vibe. Beer was decent.  The usual pit stop is Tommyknocker brewing which, with the constant flow of Denverites passing by after a day on the mountain has been around a long time.  Their beer is not bad either.
