Alaska…so far gone

Over the past year, Anchorage has had something pretty amazing happen. The city went an entire year with out dipping below 32deg F.  That also has translated into minimal snow.  In fact, even though I went in January they just recently had to truck in snow for the Iditarod.  Despite the lack of snow, I took the opportunity to pack my snowboard and check out Alyeska which was only a short drive outside of Anchorage. It was decided in December that I would support a one-week work trip testing in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. However, roughly 365miles separate the two and that would of course mean that I would have a chance to see Denali as we would drive between both cities mid-week.

My co-worker and I left a bit early to make sure we could get about two days worth of boarding. From the price that we were able to secure it seemed like the effects of a low snow season were apparent because it wasn’t overly expensive to stay at the Alyeska resort. It turned out to be a pretty nice hotel that should have been ski-in/ski-out but because I didn’t want to risk getting impaled from an exposed pine tree on the route down to the hotel, we had to take the gondola back.
